US Green Card Lottery

Each year the U.S. government gives away 55,000 green cards in the Diversity immigrant Visa program, better known as the green card lottery.
Over 7 million applications are received annually, but many people often beat the odds and do win. One of them could be you.

Find out if you are Eligible to Apply

Requirements: You or your spouse must be born in an eligible country. For a list of eligible countries, please refer to the following link http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1318.html

For DV-2007, natives of the following countries are not eligible to apply :

CANADA, CHINA (mainland-born), COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, EL SALVADOR, HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA, MEXICO, PAKISTAN, PHILIPPINES, POLAND, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA, UNITED KINGDOM (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and VIETNAM.

All applicants must have EITHER a high school education or its equivalent; OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform.

How to Apply to the DV Lottery

Starting this year, no more paper applications will be accepted. All applications must be submitted online, and photos must be either taken using a digital camera or scanned and ready to be uploaded at the time of filling the application.

The application form and more instructons can be found at www.dvlottery.state.gov . Entries must be submitted during the registration period beginning at 12:00 pm EST (GMT-5) on October 5, 200 5 and ending at 12:00 pm EST (GMT-5) on December 4, 2005.

Only one application form must be submitted per person. If multiple entries are submitted, all entries by that person will be rejected. But a husband and a wife may submit separate entries if both qualify for the DV.

Applying for the DV lottery is FREE. There is no application fees of any kind for the green card lottery. You may submit your entries by yourself or seek the assistance of a professional. Either way, your chances of getting selected are the same.

How to Find Out if you have been Selected

Applicants will be selected at random by computer from among all qualified entries. Those selected will be notified by mail between May and July 2006 and will be provided further instructions, including information on fees connected with immigration to the U.S. Persons not selected will NOT receive any notification. DV-2007 visas will be issued between October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007.

In order to actually receive a visa, applicants selected in the random drawing must meet ALL eligibility requirements under U.S. law. Processing of entries and issuance of diversity visas to successful applicants and their eligible family members MUST occur by midnight on September 30, 2007. Under no circumstances can diversity visas be issued or adjustments approved after this date, nor can family members obtain diversity visas to follow to join the applicant in the U.S. after this date.
